Philosophy of Art Education
As a student I have always found that my best learning was the result of invested, hands-on, participation.
As a teacher I plan to create an environment which inspires learning and creative action and expression.
I love that art allows people to connect and explore, both themselves and the world around them. The process of creating art puts people's inner expressions into outer contexts. leading to further inspiration and understanding of self and environment.
My strategies to execute this goal include:
-Treating all students with respect, leading by example both in and out of the classroom.
-Allowing students to creatively interpret assignments, so long as they demonstrate and meet clearly outlined project goals.
-Assigning work that encourages self-development and discovery while delivering a solid foundation for further growth.
I was encouraged to pursue a carrear in art education by a former teacher and mentor who persuaded me to work with my peers. In these group collaborations I discovered I enjoyed helping to organize work and achieve goals. As art has always been my passion, it seemed natural to me that this should grow into the role of an art educator.
